In Colorado Springs, there is a hum of activity that has nothing to do with the wind off the Rockies and everything to do with a woman named Jenn Grubb. As the founder of The Buzzy B, Jenn has turned a passion for parenting resources into a high-powered community platform. But it’s her unique partnership with the Mile High Multiverse that has transformed her events into something truly legendary. For Jenn, cosplay isn't just about the "wow" factor; it’s a strategic tool for comfort, confidence, and community connection.
The inspiration for The Buzzy B’s foray into the multiverse was simple: witnessing a child’s face light up when meeting a hero. "That moment of excitement turns into confidence," Jenn explains. It didn't take long for her to realize that a character’s presence could do more than just entertain—it could amplify the message of the nonprofits she supports, from Children’s Hospital Colorado to the National Mill Dog Rescue.
Whether it’s a donation drive for a food bank or a fundraiser for animal welfare, the presence of a "living hero" turns a standard gathering into a meaningful experience. By providing presence and awareness, Jenn helps families engage more deeply with local causes, making the act of giving back feel as accessible as a high-five from a superhero.
While the capes and cowls bring the magic, Jenn is quick to point out the reality behind the scenes. One of her primary challenges is protecting the incredible artists who volunteer their time. "Our cosplayers generously volunteer their time and resources," Jenn notes, adding that the delicate nature of hand-crafted props requires a level of respect and supervision that the public doesn't always realize is necessary.
This has led The Buzzy B to take a proactive role in education—teaching families that behind every mask is a dedicated maker who has invested hundreds of hours into their craft. It’s a mission of mutual respect: the community gets a hero, and the hero gets a community that values their work.
Looking ahead to the next two years, Jenn has set her sights on sustainability. While the "Buzzy B" spirit is rooted in volunteerism, a major goal for her is to begin creating paid opportunities for her cosplayers. It’s a bold step toward recognizing that the time, talent, and heart invested by these makers is a professional skill worthy of compensation.
As she prepares for the 4th Annual Bee-Yond Family Fun Event on June 13th, Jenn remains focused on the "buzz"—the feeling of families finding their place and their people.
"You don’t need a huge following or big resources to make an impact," Jenn says. "You just need heart and a willingness to show up."
